Russian Toy dog breed, also known as Russkiy toy or Moscow toy terrier. It is a very small dog breed that derives from the English terrier called Manchester Terrier today.
Until 1990 the race was almost unknown outside of Russia. It is a friendly dog that can soon become a member of the family.
The first proof of the breed in Russia can be seen at the zoology museum in Saint Petersburg. It’s a short-haired puppy named Lizetta. At first the terriers were looked for their abilities to hunt their mice.
Russkiy Toy Terrier’s Food
Usually small dogs are demanding for food because they are saturated with a small amount and they want to be of high quality.
When it comes to eating the easiest and most convenient thing to eat the easiest is to give him something we eat.
Many small dog owners do not take into account the dog’s diet. It needs a balanced diet. A soup with vegetables, a piece of meat and a little bread is the best for him.
Cabbage for dogs is not good because their stomach is sensitive. So is corn in large quantities or broccoli.
If you buy food for dogs at the store, it’s good to change it often. You will see that not all is the same.
Besides food, it also needs fresh water at its discretion.
Russkiy Toy Terrier’s Aspect
Russkiy Toy Terrier is one of the smallest dog breeds in the world with a length of 20-25cm and weighing 1.4-2.8kg. The head is small, distinct with large eyes and ears in the shape of a triangle. The tail is slightly curved and hangs down.
There are five main types of color: black and cream, blue and cream, brown and cream, red and varied.
This breed has two types: long hair and short hair.
Russkiy Toy Terrier’s Behavior
The terrier is an active and optimistic dog that has not forgotten its origins. He would be an excellent guard dog if he did not play his thin voice. It attaches much to family members and is reserved with strangers.
A very loyal dog to the master that is determined to defend from any danger.
These small dogs have the advantage of missing the mandatory morning and evening walks. They are very easy to carry when you visit or go on vacation. It’s very easy to keep in the apartment (this benefits those who have a work schedule of more than 8h.)
Russkiy Toy Terrier’s Training
Although it is more recommended to carry them daily, especially in crowded public places, Russian terriers are active dogs and need movement. If you play with them on a daily basis, this play will take a lot of exercises.
That does not mean they do not have to take their daily stroll. Dogs who do not make their daily movements will have behavioral problems. Periodically, it’s good to leave it in dog-like spaces like those in enclosed parks. If it’s small, do not think you’re fooling him in a small place.
Now that I have cleared the physical part, when it comes to the actual training I can tell you that he is an intelligent breed that is generally training slightly. He will do well with agility tests, but training must be firm and serious.
It can be done 15 to 45 minutes per day eventually divided into 2-3 rounds. Do not forget if he does not understand a command you do not have to yell, but repeat. A major advantage when it comes to training is reward. Every time he executes a good command, praise him and occasionally give it a small reward.
Russkiy Toy Terrier’s Features
He will have to make regular visits to the veterinarian to check for dentition where surgery may be needed.
Without this, there may be infections, bad smells or uneven teeth.
Russkiy Toy Terrier’s Diseases
Like most dog breeds, also this breed may suffer from patellar dislocation, the rotating knuckle can move out of place.
Because of its very small size, it can suffer from various fractures of fragile bones due to negligence.
Some specimens have experienced drug reactions.
